The Dukes of Hazzard Birthday Cake
This is the cake I did last week for a little boy’s birthday. It occurred to me while I was taking pictures that some of you may not know about “The Dukes of Hazzard.” Or worse, you only know the Dukes of Hazzard from that piece of garbage movie that came out in 2005. It was vulgar. Of course, it had Jessica Simpson in it. How could it not be awful?
The Dukes of Hazzard was a family show. Ridiculous story lines, super awesome car chases and stunts, no bad language, no real violence aside from fist fights, and no nastiness. It was cheesy, but in a nice and entertaining way. It currently runs in syndication on CMT.

- The theme song, “The Good Ol’ Boys” was sung by Waylon Jennings, who also was the voice of the Balladeer. The song was #1 on the American Country Chart in 1980 and reached #21 on the Billboard Chart. It’s a great theme song.
- Sorrell Booke (Boss Hogg) was fluent in 5 languages, had degrees from Columbia and Yale, and even
conducted the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra on one occasion. - Ben Jones (Cooter) was a member of the United States House of Representatives from Georgia (1989-1993.)
- The Celebrity Speed Trap, which Boss Hogg set up to catch famous singers passing through Hazzard County to “persuade” them to sing in his bar, The Boar’s Nest, was a regular feature. The guest stars included: Roy Orbison, Buck Owens, Johnny Paycheck, Tammy Wynette, and Loretta Lynn.
- The Kentucky connection (my homestate): Former governor Wallace Wilkinson played an FBI Agent in the 2nd episode.

Keep this idea, I might have to get one of those in December for my youngest brother’s birthday. He’s a Dukes of Hazzard nut!!!

That is an awesome cake! Hmm…might have to steal that idea of my husband’s upcoming day. Those are interesting facts. Never knew Boss Hogg was so darn smart.
I know! James Best (Roscoe) has an interesting background, too. He’s far from a bumbling idiot. I wonder if either one of them regretted doing the show and forever becoming Boss Hogg and Roscoe P. Coltrane?

Well, I did find out it ran in the UK, which really surprised me. I haven’t had anyone who didn’t know it yet!
Thats looks great, Like a sculpture. The fact #2 about boss hog is something I never would have guesed at. I had a big crush on Bo as a kid. But as an adult I tried to watch the origional shows for a while, but I couldnt get into them on account of the cheesiness. But back in the day.. Yeah! I had the matchbox car. And also my friends and I played ‘dukes of hazzards riding on our big wheels.
Fun times! I also hated the remake movie. Big disapointment there.
The Reunion movies weren’t any better. I watched part of “The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood” the other night. Awful! Even taking the usual cheesiness into consideration.
It is sculpture. Cake sculpture. I start out with a block of cake, which I put in the freezer to firm it up a little bit. Then I start carving, using various sizes of serrated knives. I feel like a bona fide artist. The best part is making cake balls out of the scraps. Yummy.
Great job on the cake! I’ve always wanted to take a cake decorating class. I think it would be so much fun!
You should do it! Local bakeries and Michael’s and A.C.Moore craft stores offer them all the time.
This is fantastic! I can still see that car flying through the air, with all the whoops and hollers and now it has landed, in great shape, on some lucky little Brody’s cake. He must have been thrilled and I am sure he will remember it forever.
As for the movie, what movie? This is where denial always helps.
Only yesterday, sitting in a Starbucks, someone educated me on the merits of an old tv show “Hee Haw” and how much he misses it because his grandma watched it all the time with undying love.

Hee Haw was hilarious. Completely corny but that was part of it’s charm! Minnie Pearl with the price tag hanging off her lovely flowered hats. Ah, the memories.

Hee Haw was awesome. Found it in syndication on RFD (Rural Farm Delivery) cable channel, Sundays at 8pm.
Now that brings back memories of when my kids were little, they loved it lol… Congrats on your cake it’s awesome…

This is an awesome cake. Love it!!! I watched that show every week and had the 45 of the theme song.
Tom Wopat was on my very first tour in 2000. Now he’s playing in the show across the street from mine.He rides a bicycle to work. I guess the General Lee would be a bit impractical in the city, but it would be cool to hear the horn.

Guess what? My husband has the horn on his truck! It’s a lot less cool than you would think. Thank God we live in Georgia. I’m not sure he could get away with it outside the Southern US. It’s a whole nother world down here.
